Volunteer Spotlight: Jeff’s Journey from Enterprise IT to Nonprofit Impact

At IT4Causes, our volunteers bring not only technical knowledge, but also passion, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference in the nonprofit community. This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we’re proud to highlight Jeff, whose decades of experience in enterprise IT have helped organizations strengthen their operations and better serve their missions.

Based in Midlothian, Virginia, Jeff has spent more than 30 years working in the IT industry. Over the course of his career, he has worked on nearly every type of IT project imaginable—from desktop support and enterprise solutions to data center migrations, cloud transformations, and emergency response support. For more than 15 years, he traveled extensively with a global systems integrator, helping clients navigate major transitions, transformations, and infrastructure projects while building lasting relationships with people from many different cultures and backgrounds.

Jeff’s experience spans enterprise system integration, DevOps environments, cybersecurity toolsets, innovation labs, client onboarding, and automated incident management systems. His work has included helping organizations modernize physical infrastructure into virtual and cloud-based environments, supporting clients during critical situations, and leading large-scale technology initiatives.

When asked what inspired him to get involved with IT4Causes, Jeff shared that his longstanding relationship with Tom and his desire to help nonprofits overcome technology barriers motivated him to volunteer. He recognized that nonprofits often face many of the same operational challenges as large corporations but rarely have access to enterprise-level expertise or the resources needed for comprehensive IT support.

For Jeff, volunteering in the nonprofit technology space is about giving back through the knowledge and experience he has gained throughout his career. By sharing his expertise, he is able to help organizations operate more effectively and focus on the communities they serve.

One of the projects Jeff is especially proud of was helping facilitate OAR’s office relocation. Ensuring that operations remained functional during the transition while also improving their systems along the way was a particularly rewarding accomplishment.

“What I find most rewarding is being able to deliver enterprise-level IT support to organizations that could not otherwise access or afford such services,” Jeff explained. “Knowing that my contributions help these groups achieve their missions more effectively is truly fulfilling.”

What continues to motivate Jeff is the appreciation shown by the nonprofits IT4Causes supports. Seeing the direct impact technology can have on organizations and hearing their positive feedback reinforces his commitment to continuing this work.

Outside of IT, Jeff enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring new places. Although technology has been a major part of his life, he says that traveling, meeting people from different cultures, and experiencing new environments have been some of the most enriching aspects of his journey.

We are incredibly grateful for Jeff’s dedication, expertise, and willingness to give back. Volunteers like him embody the mission of IT4Causes and make a lasting impact on the nonprofit organizations we serve.
