Michelle Boateng joins us this fall as our IT Implementation Intern. She’s studying computer science with a concentration in software engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating May 2027, and she found IT4Causes through the Virginia Works internship program at VCU. What drew her was the combination: “it gives me the chance to gain hands-on IT experience while also using technology to support nonprofit organizations.” Her favorite class so far has been Data Ethics. “It made me think beyond just creating technology and consider the responsibility that comes with it.”
Ask her what makes her a good teammate and the answer runs through communication. “I think what makes me a great teammate is that I’m reliable, open to learning, and willing to step in wherever I’m needed. Through my leadership roles on campus and working on different team projects, I’ve learned how important communication is and how to collaborate with a team.”
What she’s looking forward to is hands-on work on real technology projects, learning from the team, and seeing how what she contributes “can help nonprofit organizations better serve their communities.” After graduation she’s aiming at software engineering or a related technology role, building her technical skills on projects that solve real problems for the people using them. You can meet this year’s group at Tech4All 11.0 on Thursday, September 24, 2026, 5:30–8:00 PM, at St. Joseph’s Villa, 8000 Brook Road, Richmond. The theme is Tech With Purpose: Building the Next Generation of Tech Leaders Through Internships. Expect live demos, the premiere of a game our interns built, food, drink, and free parking.
